2011 Year In Review | True Life Photography by Karin Belgrave

I wasn’t planning to do a “Year in Review” post, but I had such an overwhelming response to the “Moo” post (with 25 different images displayed as business cards) it dawned on me that some people might not know a. exactly what I do:), b. the variety of work I provide for clients, or c. how much fun we had this year. So, here goes: some favorite images from 2011 – based on both personal preference and your feedback. There are, of course, a few personal images in here as well:)

Enjoy, and please feel free to comment and vote for your favorite!

Thanks again for a great year! Looking forward to working with you again in 2012.

All my best,

Karin

Moo! Another Unsolicited Plug | Photography & Business Solutions

Is that a cow on my business card? Sure is! Its one of 25 different images I printed on the front of my business cards from a fantastic company called “Moo”. You can actually print up to 100 different images on the front at no extra cost! Photographers love them because they serve as a portable portfolio of sorts…but think of the other uses for business: print unique identifiers (like a different QR code) on each card to track business or trade show activity. Or perhaps feature each of your company’s products on a card instead of having a printed catalog. The possibilities are endless! Everyone knows I’m a paper snob – and these cards fit the bill with a nice thick stock and satiny feel. Ordering online was a piece of cake, and they arrived quickly. I also used their Mini Cards as gift tags this Christmas (so cute!) I can’t say enough great things about them!

Learn more and/or place an order (with a first-time order discount!) via this link: http://www.moo.com/share/58mwfc

Care to share my Moo, or are you featured on one of my Moo cards? If so, leave a comment or shoot me an email and I’ll send some to you:) Thanks, as always, for your support!

Happy New Year! | True Life Photography by Karin Belgrave

Happy New Year to my wonderful clients, friends and followers! I’m celebrating the beginning of 2012 with a fresh new look for my blog. Do you like it? I love it, and I want you to love it too…please feel free to provide feedback as a comment (at the bottom of the post) or a private email (click the “email” button at the bottom of the post or “Contact” at the top). I tried to make the design suit my brand (its still simple and clean but a bit more feminine, with the ribbon detail and cursive font mixed in) and also allow for more ways to connect with me and my business (links to subscribe to my blog, connect on Facebook, follow my Pinterest boards, tweet specific blog posts, and much more!) Can’t wait to hear what you think!

I included the phrase “True Life Photography” because time after time clients tell me that their images accurately and beautifully represent their true life in a creative way, from milestone events to the everyday moments worth capturing. To me, that’s what its all about…

Here is a fun session from a couple of months ago. I couldn’t post it because the session was top-secret…Treacy wanted to surprise Jared with fun, creative images of the farm he puts so much love and effort into. Several of the images became Gallery Wrapped Canvases as a Christmas surprise for him, for their new home. I love these images because they are a bit different than my usual, and include the use of a creative lens I don’t pull out of my bag often enough. Enjoy!

Thanks again Karin! The wrapped canvases came out amazing!!

giving thanks…an unsolicited plug for some great local businesses

I love the Holidays. This year is extra special, because we are now a family of FOUR – and we have so much to be thankful for. One of the little things I am thankful for is the fact that we have great local farms from which to source our holiday meal and decorating goodies. I thought I’d take a minute to say thanks to our friends and neighbors who operate these great small businesses.

Double Brook Farm is less than two miles from my house, and is where I purchased almost all of the ingredients for our Thanksgiving meal. The bird took center stage, of course – but the carrots, potatoes, sausage and herbs I also picked up made the meal complete (and so delicious!) They are opening The Brick Farm Market in Hopewell this Spring – I can’t wait!

I inherited my love of photography from my grandfather, but I inherited my love of good food from my Mom…and when the food is local, all-natural, pasture-raised, and GORGEOUS I simply have to share. These are admittedly not my very best food photos, as I was also trying to cook, entertain, feed the baby, and somehow get dinner on the table while it was still hot…but you get the idea :)

Beautiful carrots and potatoes:

Now before you say my bird looks puny, remember I was only feeding 8 people :) Its a respectable thirteen-pounder – and it was the most juicy, flavorful bird any of us had ever had.

Rodney’s soon-to-be-famous sausage stuffing:

Now that I have you wishing there was just one more portion of Thanksgiving leftovers for a sandwich…on to Christmas! I love smelling the wonderful smell of a fresh Christmas tree every morning when I wake up. This year our tree came from Fir Brothers Christmas Trees, run this time of year by our friends the Everitts out of their farm on Route 579 in Ringoes. Throughout the year they sell fresh cheese and eggs as well! Like them on Facebook here: Hun-Val Dairy Farm).

You may remember seeing posts about Aimee (Everitt)’s Bridal Shower and Aimee and Tom’s Wedding…I’m so thankful for getting to know this wonderful family (and all of their many offerings!) through both photography and food this year.

Our Fir Brothers tree:

It’s a little different than our tree last year, when we spent Christmas with family in Trinidad. It never dawned on me that artificial trees are the norm in the tropics…of course! Just a snapshot of the tree (lovingly nicknamed “Mary Kate” because it is, well, kind of scrawny…) and my baby (who was still a baby!) on Christmas morning last year.

So, thank you, local farmers for making my holidays tasty and beautiful. Please keep up the great work.

All my best,

Karin

Wall Art Sale!

Clients: I’m having a QUICK (5 days!) sale on ALL wall art! Save 20% if you order by Friday, 12/9. Not coincidentally, this should also leave enough time for you to receive your beautiful new wall art before Christmas. Give me a call or shoot me an email with the image numbers you are thinking about featuring, and I’ll help you create a gorgeous display. Below are some examples of the most popular items…and here is a quote from a client who just received her Gallery Wrapped Canvases: “Wow, they are amazing!! I love them!!!”. Don’t be surprised if your reaction is the same :)

This is the ever-popular Gallery Wrapped Canvas. Exactly as the name describes, your image is printed on textured canvas, stretched around a wooden frame, coated with a UV-protective coating, and finished with a sawtooth hanger or wire backing (depending on size) so it is ready to hang. The image literally wraps around all four sides, making a gorgeous design statement! This is a 16′x24″ Gallery Wrap, standard/1.5″ depth:

The colors, detail, and texture are amazing, even on large canvases:

The smallest size I recommend is 11″x14″ for most display areas, so they don’t get lost on a big wall.

Close-up of the texture and fine detail:

This is an 11″x14″ Gallery Wrapped Canvas, 2.5″ depth. If your image is a tight shot (like this one – with no room to stretch the image across the sides without losing part of the subject) I can do a border in either a pattern or solid color.

Another popular and super-cool item is the Metal Standout. Your image is printed directly onto a brushed aluminum box, and comes ready to hang!

Detail of the Metal Standout corners:

As per the top image, I can also handle your professional framing projects (and almost any other creative idea!) as well.

As I’ve said countless times, let me help you get your images off of your computer and onto your walls where they belong:)

P.S.  MANY thanks to my neighbors for allowing me to use the antique schoolhouse on their property (isn’t it cool?) for this photo shoot!

All my best,

Karin
